Nominated for Volunteer/Fundraiser of the Year in the Jersey Evening Post's 2026 Pride of Jersey Awards - here's how to vote.
I'm honoured, and incredibly grateful, to have been nominated for Volunteer/Fundraiser of the Year in the 2026 Pride of Jersey Awards, run by the Jersey Evening Post.
It's a competitive category. Reading through the other nominees, there are people raising money, supporting others and giving their time in ways that make a real difference to the Island. It's humbling to be listed alongside them.
I built the railway for my own enjoyment. It was only when friends started visiting that I realised other people enjoyed it as much as I did. That's what led to the charity open days, each one raising money for a different local charity.
Since 2022, the open days have raised more than £25,000. I'm proud of that figure, but it isn't mine. It comes from the visitors who book tickets and return year after year, from the sponsors who back each event, and from the volunteers who give up their time so the day runs smoothly. I couldn't run a single open day without them.
How to vote
If you'd like to vote, the public vote decides the top three finalists in each category. A judging panel then chooses the winner, and the finalists are invited to the awards event on 18th November.
